{"id":1776,"date":"2018-08-16T13:40:42","date_gmt":"2018-08-16T17:40:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncocra.org\/WordPress_v1\/?p=1776"},"modified":"2024-11-27T22:02:56","modified_gmt":"2024-11-28T03:02:56","slug":"ocra-membership-meeting-august-13-2018","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncocra.org\/WordPress_v1\/2018\/08\/16\/ocra-membership-meeting-august-13-2018\/","title":{"rendered":"2018 Field Day&#8230; OCRA Membership Meeting, August 13, 2018"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Introductions:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Treasurer Report:\u00a0 Dan (KR4UB)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Club balance was reported.<\/p>\n<p>Dan created a new attendance sheet.\u00a0 He also went through old club records to capture the date members joined.\u00a0 There are many current members who helped establish the club in the early 1990s, when the club was called the Orange County Wireless Pioneers. \u00a0Steve Jackson (KZ1X) was the spark plug for establishing the club.\u00a0 The first meeting was in the community room of OWASA.\u00a0 Anyone with club records, please let Dan know. Dan will scan and add the content to the site, which will help preserve club records.<\/p>\n<p>Dan has a repeater still occupying space in his basement.\u00a0 The current repeater market in Durham and Alamance is rather saturated.\u00a0 However, as Chatham County is growing, so is the need for communication towers.\u00a0 Nick (KA1HPM) mentioned that the county is planning to install several new towers for 2020.\u00a0 \u00a0There may be opportunities to relocate the repeater to a tower in Chatham County for amateur radio and CERT usage.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Field Day results:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>While radio propagation was sketchy, we were able to accumulate 2000 more points this year over last.\u00a0 Every station, minus 80 meters, was able to increase their score, with digital exceeding last year by over 1000 points.\u00a0 \u00a0This year\u2019s numbers will change slightly as Dave (W4SAR) thoroughly combs the combined log to eliminate duplicate contacts, fix broken exchanges, and eliminate broken exchanges that cannot be made good:<\/p>\n<p>For more detailed information on Field Day, we encourage you to read the July 2018 DFMA newsletter.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dfma.org\/TheLink\/2018\/Link1807web.pdf\">https:\/\/www.dfma.org\/TheLink\/2018\/Link1807web.pdf<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Show and Tell<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Steve (KZ1X) was cleaning out an old radio box and brought in a Micron SWR field strength meter, which may have been purchased as the old Radio Shack in University Mall.\u00a0 The Micron measures the amount of signal transmitted by your antenna system, and a signal pattern can be plotted by taking readings around your antenna.\u00a0 The meter covers 3 to 30 MHz and can handle up to 1KW.<\/p>\n<p>He also brought alligator clips with magnifier glass used for splicing wire and adding connectors.<\/p>\n<p>Dave (KW4XL) brought in several 3D printed products, including a raspberry pi hotspot case and working crescent wrench.<\/p>\n<p>The next membership meeting is scheduled for Monday, September 10.\u00a0 Hope to see you there!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Introductions: Treasurer Report:\u00a0 Dan (KR4UB) Club balance was reported.
